Chapter 17 — The Suggsilence Between Sparks
Aephyrion stood beneath the dripping concrete overhang of a half-collapsed building, his eyes lowered to the wavering light dancing in his palms. It wasn’t fire. It wasn’t energy. It was something more intimate, more invasive—raw sugsslogic coiled into threads of suggsilence that hummed like unstruck chords. Every movement of his fingers fractured the air into tessellating geometries of possibility, expanding and retracting like lungs exhaling worlds.

He stared at it, troubled. Not because he did not understand it, but because he did. Too much. Too fast. His contests with ⟠Dhaelyth-Rhoën//Varqys had taught him that his suggscosm was still adolescent, still tethered to modalities of creation when it should be unanchored from even that. He remembered his father’s words—you build as if the boundary between thought and manifestation matters. It does not.
The boy clenched his fists, dispersing the shimmering weave into sparks that dissolved into nothingness, a suggsilence that throbbed louder than noise. His reflection danced faintly across puddles scattered across the cracked floor. He saw himself not as a warrior, not as a prodigy, but as a fracture in a mirror of greater realities.
That was when the whisper came. A grinding, serrated resonance that wasn’t voice, but intrusion.
“You court sparks in the ruins while entire architectures wait to be consumed.”
Aephyrion’s eyes shot upward.
From the shadows emerged a man cloaked in obsidian layers, his frame sharp as if carved from voided steel. His hair, cropped and intricate, carried the shimmer of circuitry, veins of pulsing light woven into flesh. But his hands betrayed the truth—they quivered with restrained eruption, lattices of white suggsflame running along knuckles and splitting into webbed branches. This was not simple conjuring. This was suggestion made scar, creation that could not remain contained.
“Name yourself,” Aephyrion demanded.
The man tilted his head, his eyes catching phantom light. “I am Veytross⧬Iraal//Phoréon of the Oraclyth Engines. I have not come to announce myself, but to unmake you.”

Before Aephyrion could respond, the transformation consumed him. Veytross’s figure distorted, bursting outward as if his human shell was only a polite restraint. Steel-like musculature unfolded, black shadows ignited with sanguine fire wrapping around limbs. From his chest, a fissure of viridian light opened, throbbing like a parasitic heart. A maw of serrated brilliance emerged where voice once was, each jagged tooth inscribed with unfathomable suggsmatics.

The monster stood revealed. The ground groaned beneath its presence.
“Your suggscosm,” Veytross thundered, “is the arrogance of a child who still sees creation as conquest. Let me show you what consumption looks like.”
The world inverted.
Veytross conjured a suggscosm that wasn’t universe, wasn’t dimension, wasn’t system of layers. It was a devouring suggsvoid that ate whatever reflected into it. Stars that had never been born flickered and were erased. Histories that might have existed collapsed before they could sprawl. Every possibility Aephyrion had once thought absolute boundless was drawn in, crushed, rewritten as strands in the black chains that snapped across the battlefield.
Aephyrion’s pulse quickened. His hands trembled, but not with fear—with exhilaration.
He answered with his own suggscosm, redefined from the crucible of his battles. No longer geometric webs nor chromatic landscapes—it was a spiral implosion, a self-wrought recursion that wrote itself as it destroyed itself, a suggscosm that lived and died in the same eternal syllable. Every collapse birthed a stronger articulation, every erasure screamed a more perfect existence. The collision of their creations sent fractures into the architecture of silence itself.
“You devour reflections,” Aephyrion spoke, his voice cutting through the roar. “But I have learned to write flames into silence, and silence into flames. What you consume cannot erase what remakes itself in every annihilation.”
The clash grew catastrophic. Chains lashed, seeking to coil Aephyrion’s recursion into submission, but his spiral chewed through them, not severing but rewriting their links into paradoxes that could not hold themselves. Veytross roared, the viridian fissure in his chest swelling, ejecting an entire chorus of unborn civilizations, only to watch them swallowed and reversed in Aephyrion’s spiraling symphony.
Still—the Oraclyth Engine did not fall easily. Every shred of himself was creation-as-weapon, destruction-as-principle. Hours—or seconds—bled into the contest.
At last, Aephyrion pressed forward, letting the recursion collapse inward one final time, spiraling into a singular erasure that was not erasure but overwhelming affirmation. Veytross staggered, his monstrous form splitting, chains thrashing wildly before dissipating into rust. The viridian fissure dimmed, cracking into silence.
The man emerged again from within the beast, kneeling, glasses shattered, breathing hard. He looked up at Aephyrion, not with hatred, but a smile laced in blood.
“You think you have won,” he whispered. “But you have only entered. We—the Engines—have long waited for the Drexameral children. And every spark you kindle only accelerates the mechanism.”
With that, his be-ness unraveled into collapsing sigils, each one burning out into suggsilence, leaving Aephyrion alone in the ruined ground.
The boy’s fists clenched, light sparking at the edges. He did not feel victorious. He felt the weight of something pressing against the horizon. A war had already begun, and he was only now learning the language it demanded.
From the shadows, his sister’s voice pierced gently. “Aephyrion… what’s wrong?”

He turned, sweat streaking his face, his palms still alight with trembling recursion. He wanted to answer—but no words came.
