Voidsong V: The Silence That Forgot to End

Draven Endwriting
Ranavalona Zakirra
Ae’Suggsrael
Khal’Vossugg

The deeper they walked into the Void Beyond, the more the void behaved as though it had begun to notice them—like a predatory idea awakening beneath its own extinction. What had once been darkness now resembled a grand, dissolving anatomy, as if creation’s nervous system had been skinned, inverted, and abandoned to twitch in the afterglow of nonexistence. The air grew viscous, every breath feeling like the inhalation of melted intention. It wasn’t cold. It wasn’t warm. It was pressure, the kind that made bones feel like they were remembering something painful.

Draven kept his stride steady, though the broken hilt at his belt pulsed with faint echoes of frost that had nowhere to belong. Ranavalona walked on his left like an unrepentant flame draped in human outline, her crimson glow the only offensive color in a universe that abhorred hue. She hummed under her breath—not a melody, but a provocation, as though daring the void to mute her again.

Ae’Suggsrael came behind them, his presence tearing open the horizon with every breath he didn’t need. Galaxies swam across his chest and arms, folding and unfolding like pages in a scripture no one had ever been permitted to read. His gait was slow, deliberate, priest-like, but every footstep recalibrated the nothing around him, forcing the void to make room.

Khal’Vossugg moved at Draven’s right, silent but never inert. His crimson robes drifted behind him like the leftover smoke of forgotten gods. His crown of barbed, blackened light hovered, rotating slowly, each thorn dripping motes of uncreation that evaporated upon falling—but only after whispering in languages that had never been born. When he spoke, the air below them dipped in reverent tremors.

“This layer of the Void Beyond is older than the idea of age,” Khal’Vossugg murmured, his voice molting into the silence. “No traveler walks here without being unmade. You four violate that law simply by refusing to bow.”

Ranavalona shot a grin at Draven. “Hear that? Still hot enough to break rules even when the void has given up on having any.”

Draven smirked beneath his mask, but he didn’t break stride. “Rules don’t mean much when everything is trying to swallow you whole.”

“They mean everything,” Ae’Suggsrael intoned, “because the Void Beyond despises meaning. Meaning is the only enemy stillness has never defeated.”

As they walked, the void beneath them began to distort—not in shape, but in confidence. Sometimes it resembled the husk of a ruined city street, with shattered stone rippling beneath unseen wind. Other times it blurred into liquid silence, a surface that flexed beneath their weight like the skin of a dormant leviathan. And sometimes, for a heelbeat or two, there was no ground at all—yet their bodies refused to fall, as if each footstep carried its own insistence on direction.

Draven felt it first: the pull.
A sudden tightening around his chest, as if invisible fingers had reached into the core of his being and squeezed.

Ranavalona jerked to a halt, swearing in a language that burned the air. “It’s happening again. The void’s trying to pull the ego out of us.”

Ae’Suggsrael’s galaxies flickered. “Not pull—peel.”

Khal’Vossugg nodded slowly. “This depth is merciless. It despises the concept of a self. It prefers every presence flattened into an obedient hush. It smells your resistance, Draven. It is… intrigued.”

The pull intensified. The air around them became elastic, stretching outward like a membrane. Their silhouettes began to elongate, distort. Draven’s reflection peeled off his body like a sheet of wet paper, writhing with a mind of its own. Ranavalona’s glow flickered, her flame-blood leaking sideways as if trying to escape her skin. Ae’Suggsrael’s galaxies collapsed inward, trying to devour themselves. Khal’Vossugg’s robes trembled, shedding red motes that whispered hunger.

The void inhaled.

And the world turned inside-out.

They were no longer on the floor of the void.
They were in raw silence—a place where silence itself had the illusion of mass, structure, architecture. It pressed against their lungs, trying to seep into their bones, trying to overwrite their outlines. The silence here was not absence; it was predatory geometry, a structure that hated motion, hated personality, hated ego.

Draven staggered as cold ripped down his spine—cold not from temperature, but from the feeling of his selfhood being scraped like paint. His thoughts blurred, dissolving into static. His heartbeat thudded like a drum wrapped in wet cloth.

Ranavalona screamed—but the sound collapsed before it left her throat, turning into a plume of black flame that flickered uselessly in the unlight.

Ae’Suggsrael’s arms tore into dozens of fractal possibilities, each version of him alternating between existing and not, galaxies imploding and expanding as if the entire cosmic choir within him was being forced to kneel.

Khal’Vossugg’s halo flickered violently, its barbs melting into liquid anti-light.

The silence was eating them.
Slowly.
Steadily.
Lovingly.

Draven forced breath through his teeth. “Not… like this.”

He pressed his palm against his chest, hunting for the spark of self the void hadn’t devoured. Faces flashed through his mind—his daughters, the old alleyways he used to walk, the smell of broken snow in winter Baltimore, the weight of his knife in his hand. He clung to them like ropes thrown into a storm.

The Void hissed.

Ranavalona snarled, forcing her flame back into her hands. “Don’t touch him.”

Her flame exploded outward—Flames of Void, blacker than the surrounding black, a fire that burned concepts and silence rather than matter. It carved a circle of defiance around her and Draven, forcing the silence to recoil.

Ae’Suggsrael lifted his head. His galaxies surged outward in tidal waves.
Then he did not scream—but the Void reacted as though he had.

The screams without sound burst into existence, sending rippling shockwaves of suggsvoid in all directions. Silence shattered. The architecture of nothingness cracked like fractured glass.

Khal’Vossugg stepped forward, regaining his throne-like posture. “Enough.”

His halo flared in a crown of annihilated starlight.

The pull ceased.

The silence moaned—wounded, displeased, but forced to retreat. Its tendrils dissolved like ink in water.

The four regained their identity.

The atmosphere changed.
Not calmer—merely respectful.

The Void Beyond understood now:
these four would not be eaten so easily.

They walked onward, each step rewriting a sliver of the nothing around them. The raw silence retreated, but not far. It slithered just behind their heels, studying, waiting for the next lapse, the next weakness, the next opportunity to draw them into final stillness.

Ranavalona nudged Draven’s shoulder. “You still with me, Frostbite?”

“Still here,” he said, voice steady.

“Good.” She flashed a wicked grin. “Silence hates that.”

They crested a ridge of dissolving memory, and the view before them stole even Ae’Suggsrael’s breath.

A quasar-sized maw yawned across the horizon—an abyss of erasure, ringed by floating monoliths carved from failed realities. Shards of history hovered in frozen collapse, entire civilizations reduced to disobedient fragments trembling against the pull of cancellation.

Khal’Vossugg whispered, “Behold the Void’s first hunger.”

Ae’Suggsrael added, “It is bias made landscape. Bias against totality, against possibility, against story. Against being.”

Draven stared at it. “And we’re walking into that?”

Ranavalona smirked. “You’re leading us into that. I just want a front-row seat when you piss it off.”

The maw stirred.

A tidal wave of raw negation erupted from its depths—an avalanche of un-sound rolling toward them, threatening to flatten their identities like paper under stone.

But this time—

They did not flinch.

Draven stepped forward. His whispering echoes rose like frost-laden prayers.
Ranavalona’s flames spiraled into black suns.
Ae’Suggsrael’s galaxies pulsed in defiant hymn.
Khal’Vossugg’s halo thrummed like a throne deciding to walk again.

The silence struck.

Their egos stood firmer.

The maw inhaled—
and everything shattered.

The land dissolved.
The skyline disintegrated.
The void cracked into hundreds of floating shards, each piece swirling with erased meaning.

Draven exhaled softly. “Here we go again.”

Khal’Vossugg stepped beside him. “Indeed. And yet, you still walk.”

Ranavalona twirled black fire in her hand. “He’s stubborn. It’s cute.”

Ae’Suggsrael gazed into the dissolving horizon. “It admires you now. The Void Beyond rarely respects those who breathe.”

Draven looked forward, unshaken. “Then let’s teach it something new.”

And together—

Draven, Ranavalona, Ae’Suggsrael, and Khal’Vossugg
stepped into the shattering world,
walking not as wanderers…
but as contradictions the void had no language for.

Silence trembled.
Stillness hesitated.
Negation recoiled.

The Void Beyond did not understand them—

And for the first time,
it feared that it might have to.

The Voidsong deepened.
