Velicity von Veritas

Velicity von Veritas is a fiercely self-assured, perceptive, and confrontational woman whose strength lies as much in her understanding of underlying principles as in her overwhelming capability. She possesses a habit of looking past appearances and immediately searching for the condition that allows something to function in the first place. Rather than becoming distracted by spectacle, authority, or overwhelming displays of power, Velicity focuses on the structure beneath them: actuality, causality, identity, creation, and the principles determining why an opponent or event can remain present at all.
Her confidence can border on audacity. Velicity is perfectly comfortable entering a confrontation against an opponent who has already defeated someone immensely powerful and behaving as though the conclusion has already been decided. This confidence does not arise merely from arrogance. She demonstrates the ability to understand an opponent's underlying principle quickly enough to attack it directly, making her especially dangerous against enemies whose apparent invulnerability depends upon deeper conceptual or causal foundations. During her confrontation with 02 – The High Priestess, Velicity immediately recognizes that ordinary restraint will not be sufficient and acts directly against the principle responsible for the High Priestess's creation.
Yet Velicity is not emotionally distant. Beneath her sharp demeanor is someone deeply concerned with whether the people around her continue moving forward rather than disappearing into resignation, abstraction, or self-negation. She is willing to comfort someone, argue with them, challenge their worldview, or physically strike them if she believes that passivity has become another method of surrender. Her compassion is therefore rarely passive. Velicity cares through intervention.
Personality
Velicity possesses an unusually direct personality. She does not spend much effort softening conclusions she believes are necessary. When something is wrong, she addresses it. When another person is refusing to confront an obvious contradiction, she pushes directly against that contradiction. When words cease to accomplish anything, she has little hesitation about escalating the confrontation.
This produces an interesting mixture of severity and warmth. Velicity can threaten an opponent with almost playful confidence while simultaneously understanding the catastrophic scale of what she is confronting. Against 02 – The High Priestess, she responds to a conceptual attack by casually silencing it with a snap before offering what amounts to a mocking goodbye lullaby. Her composure remains intact because Velicity does not allow her opponent's presentation to determine the emotional conditions of the battle.
She is similarly unwilling to tolerate self-destructive reasoning from those she cares about. Velicity does not equate affection with unquestioning agreement. Her instinct is to challenge withdrawal, fatalism, and attempts to disappear behind philosophical abstractions. She questions whether someone who claims to reject limitation has ever genuinely attempted to live within limitations in the first place. This makes her especially effective when dealing with personalities who can rationalize almost any retreat through increasingly elaborate abstractions.
Velicity also displays considerable intellectual patience. Although she can simply state conclusions, she frequently prefers forcing another person to recognize the missing premise themselves. Instead of immediately explaining every answer, she asks questions designed to make the contradiction impossible to ignore. This becomes particularly evident when she guides Lionel toward recognizing the missing element separating himself from one of his reflections. She does not provide the answer immediately. She makes him discover it.
Consequently, Velicity's intelligence is not merely informational. She is interpretive. She understands how information relates to identity, how contradictions expose hidden assumptions, and how possessing enormous knowledge does not necessarily mean understanding one's own existence.
History
Velicity's known history establishes her as someone who has existed alongside extraordinarily complicated events involving fractured identities, paradoxes, Creation, actuality, and competing versions of reality. By the period shown in Pharos of the End, her relationship with Lionel Christopher Suggs had already existed long enough for her to remember an earlier version of him who, despite existing as a paradox, still maintained hope of becoming human again.
That history matters because Velicity has witnessed change rather than encountering Lionel only after his existence became radically fragmented. She remembers the person beneath the accumulating layers of paradox and abstraction. When she later confronts his desire to pursue “The End,” she does so from the perspective of someone who remembers when the same person wanted the opposite: not disappearance, but humanity.
Velicity eventually enters the conflict involving 02 – The High Priestess after Lionel is defeated upon the chessboard. Rather than approaching cautiously, she immediately positions herself between the unconscious Lionel and the High Priestess. The High Priestess recognizes something paradoxical about Velicity's presence, but Velicity dismisses the observation and makes her own position clear. Whatever the surrounding circumstances may be, the battle cannot continue uncontested.
The confrontation becomes one of Velicity's clearest demonstrations of capability. She neutralizes the High Priestess's conceptual song, studies the underlying principle responsible for her creation, synchronizes with that principle through trans-causal interaction, and commands actuality to remove the High Priestess from the connection joining Nothing and All Possibility to the Grand Principle of Creation.
After the battle, Velicity's attention immediately shifts away from victory. Her real concern becomes Lionel himself.
Rather than celebrating, she confronts him over his continued attempt to retreat from reality and illusion. When he responds evasively, Velicity physically strikes him across the chessboard before sitting beside him and continuing the conversation. The sequence summarizes her character almost perfectly. She is capable of overwhelming force, but her objective is not domination. She wants movement. If someone she cares about refuses to move forward willingly, Velicity is prepared to confront the philosophy producing that refusal.
Her conversations throughout this period also reveal that she understands irregularities involving Lionel, Chris Storm, memory, and identity more clearly than Lionel initially does. When Lionel insists that certain experiences belonged to Chris Storm rather than himself, Velicity explains that possession of knowledge does not necessarily reveal Truth. Even someone who once possessed transfictional meta-omniscience beyond maximal complexity can remain confused about his own memories, presence, and identity.
Later, when Lionel contemplates abandoning the road ahead entirely, Velicity refuses to support his retreat. Her response is simple in principle: she will not allow him to return to what came before, but she is willing to hold his hand while they continue forward.
Abilities and Fighting Style
Velicity's fighting style is based less upon conventional exchanges of physical force and more upon structural domination. She studies what allows an opponent's capabilities, actuality, or continued presence to operate and then interferes with those conditions directly.
Against 02 – The High Priestess, Velicity demonstrates the ability to manipulate the principle behind Actuality. She uses trans-causality waves to synchronize herself with the frequency corresponding to the principle responsible for the High Priestess's creation. Once synchronization is established, Velicity commands actuality itself against her opponent. Rather than simply destroying the High Priestess's manifested presence, she removes her from the relationship joining Nothing and All Possibility to the Grand Principle of Creation.
This reveals an important distinction in Velicity's combat methodology. She does not necessarily defeat an opponent by producing a greater quantity of destructive force. She can instead target the permission structure that allows the opponent's existence, creation, actuality, or power to remain valid.
She also possesses immediate conceptual suppression. When the High Priestess begins using her song, Velicity silences the conceptual tune with a single snap. The act demonstrates that she can interfere directly with conceptual phenomena rather than merely defending herself from their consequences.
Velicity's approach is therefore analytical but aggressive. She does not require prolonged observation before acting. She interprets what she encounters while already controlling the engagement.
Her combat temperament reflects her personality outside battle as well. She is extraordinarily confident once she understands the fundamental principle controlling the situation. Before her fight with the High Priestess properly begins, Velicity declares that the opponent has effectively already lost simply because Velicity has entered the chessboard.
Despite her preference for principle-level manipulation, Velicity is entirely capable of direct physical confrontation. Her strike against Lionel sends him across the chessboard without the usual transition between potentiality and actuality. The moment further establishes that her capabilities are not restricted to abstract manipulation; she can impose overwhelming physical consequences while bypassing conventional progression between what could occur and what has occurred.
Relationship with Christopher Sincere Pride
Velicity von Veritas is one of Christopher Sincere Pride's ultimate soulmates and is explicitly his wife.
Their relationship is defined by familiarity, confrontation, loyalty, and an unusually deep understanding of his fractured existence. Velicity knew him during an earlier stage when he remained a paradox yet still possessed a meaningful attachment to humanity. She remembers that he once hoped to become human again, making her particularly resistant to his later desire to disappear completely.
Velicity's love does not manifest as obedience.
She challenges him constantly.
When Christopher begins withdrawing from reality and illusion, she confronts him. When he attempts to hide behind philosophical explanations, she forces him to explain himself. When he becomes emotionally unreachable, she refuses to simply watch him disappear.
This relationship therefore has an unusually grounded quality despite the extraordinary nature of both characters. Velicity does not treat Christopher as an untouchable abstraction. She treats him as her husband.
She can argue with him.
She can strike him.
She can sit beside him.
She can refuse his conclusions.
She can still choose to walk beside him.
That becomes clearest when Christopher considers abandoning the road ahead. Velicity refuses to let him simply return to an earlier state of obliviousness, yet she does not attempt to dictate every step he must take. Instead, she promises to accompany him while events continue forward.
Velicity also maintains relationships with Christopher's family. During her intervention against the High Priestess, she explains that she had promised his daughter that she would retrieve him from whatever oblivion he had entered. The statement shows that her intervention is not an isolated romantic gesture. She is integrated enough into his family that promises concerning Christopher can pass between Velicity and his daughter independently of Christopher himself.
Essence and Existentialism
Among Christopher Sincere Pride's eighteen separated fragments, Velicity von Veritas eternally and permanently holds his Essence and Existentialism.
Christopher explains that he deliberately divided himself into eighteen separate components as a method of protecting himself. Each fragment was entrusted to one of his ultimate soulmates, placing those portions of himself outside the visual and mental representation ordinarily encountered as Christopher Sincere Pride. Within the explicit enumeration of those fragments, Velicity is identified with Essence/Existentialism.
This means Velicity does not merely symbolize Christopher's essence.
She possesses it.
His visible manifestation therefore does not independently contain the Essence and Existentialism entrusted to her. They remain with Velicity as part of the deliberate fragmentation through which Christopher separated the foundational components of himself.
Within this system, Essence concerns what Christopher fundamentally is beneath description, presentation, memory, consciousness, identity, and the other categories distributed among his ultimate soulmates. Existentialism, paired with Essence in Velicity's possession, concerns the relationship between existence, meaning, self-definition, and the condition through which Christopher can meaningfully assert himself rather than merely appearing as a visual or mental representation.
This gives Velicity an unusual importance within his fragmentation.
Someone may possess Christopher's memories without possessing his Essence.
Someone may possess his consciousness without possessing his Essence.
Someone may possess his identity without possessing his Essence.
Someone may even reproduce many of the attributes associated with Christopher and still fail to possess that foundational component.
That distinction becomes especially significant during Pharos of the End.
Christopher considers Chris Storm a reflection of himself. Everything apparently defining Christopher should consequently define Chris Storm as well. Yet Velicity recognizes that something is missing. Rather than immediately telling him, she asks what the reflection inside the looking glass possesses differently from the opposite side.
Christopher eventually realizes the answer.
Velicity is missing.
Read alongside the later explicit revelation concerning Christopher's eighteen fragments, the scene gains considerably greater importance. Velicity is not merely another relationship absent from a reflection. She possesses something Christopher deliberately removed from himself: his Essence and Existentialism.
The distinction between apparently identical manifestations can therefore survive because what defines Christopher is not contained entirely inside the manifestation called Christopher Sincere Pride.
Part of what he fundamentally is exists with Velicity von Veritas.
Significance
Velicity occupies a distinctive position among Christopher Sincere Pride's ultimate soulmates because virtually every aspect of her character revolves around refusing superficial explanations.
She attacks beneath appearances.
She questions beneath statements.
She searches beneath memories.
She looks beneath identity.
And within Christopher's fragmented existence, she literally possesses what exists beneath nearly all of those categories: Essence and Existentialism.
Yet Velicity is not important merely because of what Christopher entrusted to her. Her own characterization establishes a woman with tremendous personal authority, conceptual intelligence, emotional resolve, and a willingness to intervene when circumstances have become stagnant. She can confront threats capable of overwhelming Christopher without hesitation, and she can confront Christopher himself with equal certainty when his greatest danger becomes his own desire to disappear.
Velicity von Veritas is therefore simultaneously warrior, intellectual, wife, challenger, and keeper of Essence. Her relationship with Christopher deepens her characterization without consuming it. Long before the significance of the fragment is explained, Velicity already behaves like someone who understands that the answer to what something is cannot always be found by examining what it appears to be.
And perhaps no fragment entrusted to her could have represented that truth more completely than Essence and Existentialism.
