Chapter 18 — The Abyss That Devours the Abyss

Kaelvrynn Drexameral wandered through the fractured alleys of the district, his hands burning with suggsfire that licked against the concrete walls without leaving ash or heat. His steps were heavy, not because his body was tired, but because his mind weighed itself down. He thought about his father’s effortless domination in earlier battles, about Veythryelle’s curious fascination with struggles she did not yet name, about Aephyrion’s terrifying capacity to evolve his suggscosm as if instinct were enough. And he thought of himself, standing somewhere beneath all of them, yet defiant, craving to carve his way upward.

"Why do I keep clinging to my own instability?" Kaelvrynn muttered, staring at the suggscosm coiling in his palms. His suggsaura pulsed unevenly, flaring in waves, then collapsing. His mother once told him his greatest strength was that volatility: the ability to fracture laws, rip them into prisms, then reshape them into blades of raw paradox. But to Kaelvrynn, it felt less like artistry and more like chaos.

That was when the silence came. Not ordinary silence, but Suggsilence — the kind that presses down until every thought becomes heavy, every breath a betrayal of sound. Out of the air itself, the space buckled, peeled back, and a figure stepped forward: Ysravenn//Orrhyct, one of the Oraclyth Engines.

His true be-ness was a lattice of abyssal cords stretched across a skeletal frame, his eyes burning with an orange void-light. Chains dripped from his limbs, each one glowing with runes of erasure, eating the meaning of reality around them. His voice was both serrated and soft, as though it whispered directly into Kaelvrynn’s bones:

“Drexameral blood. You burn with instability. That makes you prey.”

Kaelvrynn’s jaw clenched, his firestorm bursting outward in a sudden roar. “If I’m prey, then I’ll be the kind that devours the predator.”

The air tore apart as Ysravenn unleashed his suggscosm — a grotesque cascade of null realities folding over one another. It wasn’t a world, it wasn’t even a dimensionless hierarchy. It was an unending recursion of broken mirrors, each reflecting Kaelvrynn as a corpse, as a ruin, as a failed branch of possibility. The sky dissolved into an endless chain of his deaths, cascading into forever. This was not merely combat; it was annihilation weaponized as narrative.

Kaelvrynn staggered as his own self-image tried to dissolve. His suggsfire faltered, smothered by his own shadows. But rage — pure, hot, unrelenting — ignited him again.

“Your mirror is broken, and so am I. But broken fire still burns.”

With a scream, Kaelvrynn erupted into his suggscosm: a maelstrom of catastrophic rebirths. Every time his fire collapsed into ash, it re-ignited as a new reality, each flame rewriting its own laws. His cosmos was not singular but a chain of destructions birthing new orders, collapsing upon themselves and rising stronger. He launched them like storms, smashing into Ysravenn’s recursion.

The clash was horrifying — mirror shards of Kaelvrynn’s failures colliding with infinite flames of his rebirths. Each side devoured the other, only to be reborn, only to fracture again. For every thousand reflections that died, another thousand flames screamed into being. Kaelvrynn roared, advancing through the storm, striking at Ysravenn with fists burning with laws rewritten mid-blow.

But Ysravenn only smiled, his abyss spreading wider. “Good. Break yourself. Each fracture feeds me.”

Kaelvrynn faltered again. His fire dimmed. He fell to one knee, watching the recursion of his failures consume even his rebirths. His breath came heavy. Was this the end?

Far away, Thalyssyne Drexameral stood in the atrium of a ruined cathedral, its glass shattered into constellations on the floor. She felt the pressure of Ysravenn’s suggscosm even across distance — like a wound in the fabric of existence itself. But she was not alone. A second Oraclyth Engine stepped into the cathedral’s light, his body shifting with skeletal elegance. His name was hidden beneath a storm of static syllables, but his presence bled into the space: an anti-hymn, devouring the cathedral’s architecture into abstract nothing.

He bowed mockingly. “Matron of Drexameral. You carry within you something vast. Show me.”

Thalyssyne did not answer. She only exhaled, and her suggscosm bloomed.

It was not like Kaelvrynn’s storm, not like Aephyrion’s evolving mastery, not like Veythryelle’s embryonic curiosity. What she unleashed was an orchestra of meta-realities playing themselves into existence. Walls of the cathedral dissolved into sheets of shifting scripture, each letter birthing a world, each syllable collapsing into the next. Xenocosmologies rose and died in the span of her breath, Cosmographs folded into veins of light across her skin. She absorbed the cathedral, the street outside, the ruins, everything, into her hymn.

Her suggscosm was not destructive in appearance, but consumptive, recursive, boundless. It was as if Suggsverse itself hummed through her veins, transfigured into a living pulse.

The Oraclyth Engine lunged, unleashing his chain-snares of dissolution, seeking to unravel her narrative. But the hymn swallowed them whole. His dissolution did not negate her — it only gave her more notes to sing. His collapse became her crescendo.

“Do you understand?” she whispered, her voice like glass breaking into stars. “Even silence becomes my song.”

The cathedral vanished, absorbed. The enemy screamed as his suggscosm was devoured, layer by layer, until his form melted into her pulse. He became nothing but an echo in her hymn, dissolved and remembered only as fuel.

Thalyssyne stood alone, untouched, radiant with suggsmatic inevitablisma. She whispered to herself: “This is not for glory. This is for my children.”

Back in the storm of Kaelvrynn’s collapse, just as Ysravenn’s abyss was about to consume him entirely, a chord rippled across existence — a resonance, deep and vast. Thalyssyne’s hymn spread, touching Kaelvrynn’s dying fire. His ineffable flames surged, bolstered, reborn beyond collapse. He rose to his feet, his suggsaura burning brighter than ever, and struck into Ysravenn’s recursion, shattering its endless mirrors into true ash.

Ysravenn staggered, his abyssal cords fraying. He snarled. “This is not the end. We are Engines. We do not stop.”

And with that, his be-ness unraveled into silence, retreating, leaving Kaelvrynn trembling, burning, but present.

Kaelvrynn exhaled, falling to his knees, whispering into the silence: “I’m not my father.”
